Hello! I can't believe my friends and I are planning my 60th birthday! In June, I'm heading off for a few days. It's my first trip to Hawaii. Kauai, to be exact. I am amazed at how much there is to know about the Hawaiian Islands. You need a guide just to pick an island! We chose this one as it is the most nature-y.

Here's what I learned about Kauai...Lanai is one of the islands comprising the U.S. state of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean. On its northern side is Shipwreck Beach, known for its offshore wreck of a WWII tanker, plus views of Molokai and Maui islands. In the northwest, long, secluded Polihua Beach attracts green turtles. Humpback whales sometimes appear past the shoreline. Inland is the Garden of the Gods, a lunar landscape of rock towers and boulders. ― Google

(I wonder if it is a rule that every state has to have a place called Garden of the Gods.)

Color: ʻĀlani, Orange

(The island has a color! My town does not have a color!!)

Flower: Kaunaʻoa, Cuscuta sandwichiana

(I wonder if it is sandwich-shaped!)

I remember as a little kid hearing adults say, "Where did the time go?" I thought they were a bit nuts. Oh my goodness, I get it now. There are so many things I do now that I swore I would never do, mostly wearing clothes with elastic waistlines. I was never a late-night person, but my bed calls me to it earlier every night. I have about a million dollars worth of vitamins and supplements. Any music written after 2000 sucks. Well that is not ageing that is just a fact.

I do feel very lucky to have the time, friends, and cash to do this once in a lifetime trip. I will post lots of pictures! In the meantime, I hope you northern hemisphere folks are enjoying our warmer weather.
