Getting my ducks in a row
Holy cow, what a year it has been. Many many obstacles. Or, if I want to be super honest, outright failures.

At the beginning of the year, jobs were plentiful. If I even looked in the direction of someone hiring IDs, I would get friend requests and job offers. I decided to get some part-time work and be a freelancer.
Huge failure number one: I would work for tarot card readers, mystics, mediums, medical intuitive, etc. How fun would that be! I had some aspiring business owners reach out to me for work. I was very flattered; it came to me so quickly that I thought for sure this must be what I was meant to do. Then, after spending many hours designing and building a sample course, they unceremoniously blew me off separately and similarly.

I also noticed a crazy thing. I would say, yes, hello, I am an ID. I help people who want to take classes online. I design and build them. They say back, GREAT! I’m seeking someone to help me with my marketing posts and email campaign. I still can’t understand why more than five people said the same thing over the last year. But again, I took it as a sign, and I have a part-time marketing post and email writer job. It’s super fun!
Huge failure number 2. I started my online school. I bought a year subscription to a Learning Management System and built it from scratch, Name, logo, color scheme, and designed, wrote, and built 5 courses. It’s really good. It’s called Old School, for older people who are got fired or want to quit their jobs. If you’d like to see it, here it is.
It was a highly time-consuming and expensive venture, but unfortunately, I received no engagement whatsoever. I couldn't even get people to look at the classes, let alone take them.

Some good things came out of it. I got a ton of first-hand knowledge of being the only Admin of a learning management system. Which I think led me to my biggest success of the year!
National University of Natural Medicine! Woo hoo! I got that job just seconds before the bottom fell out of the ID industry. I am coming up on two years, but this year is when it got serious. I was promoted from a part-time ID to full-time and got a cool project. I made it, but it was very precarious for a while there.

I learned that although I value autonomy, I suck at owning my own freelance business. I would love to, but it does not seem to be in the cards. I am much more productive when I know my paycheck and benefits are generally set, and I can get on with the business of being creative and hard-working. With that in mind, I will write and post soon my 2024 goals.
