Just another opinion you didn't ask for.

As a dedicated higher education professional with a Master's degree specializing in assessment and curriculum, I value a friendly environment with colleagues, many of whom hold terminal degrees.

In our professional interactions, I propose that if we use titles such as 'Dr.' in our communication, we should also extend the courtesy of using formal titles like 'Ms.', 'Mx.', Mr.', or 'Mrs.'. This approach promotes an atmosphere of respect and inclusivity, recognizing that educational achievements, while significant, do not inherently imply superiority of intellect or ability. If referring to me as Ms. Duley feels funny, I will not call you Dr. Whatever.

I go to see an ND, MD, or DC. In your office, this is an entirely different story. I am addressing you by your professional titles as a sign of respect and acknowledgment of your specialized knowledge and role.

P.S. This is not a commentary on my current job, where my coworkers are lovely and never pull rank—just my experience in the field.
